Falkirk Council’s SNP Group Leader, Councillor Cecil Meiklejohn, has welcomed the announcement of an additional £3.77m to be allocated to the council’s Revenue Budget following the budget deal done between the minority SNP Government and the Green Party.
In addition the council will receive a further boost to it’s capital budget by around three quarters of million additional cash.
Councillor Meiklejohn said,
“This money comes on top of the recent announcement of an additional £3.5m for the purpose of boosting pupil attainment and demonstrates the SNP‘s commitment to local government.”
“For months Falkirk Councils coalition Labour, Tory and Billy Buchanan Administration has been predicting the end of civilisation as we know it, causing fear and uncertainty within the workforce all for no other purpose than scoring petty points.”
“While they have wrung their hands blaming everyone but themselves the SNP Group has been lobbying for a positive settlement against a background of Tory Cuts and their Westminster austerity programme.”
Speaking specifically about the deal with the Greens Councillor Meiklejohn said,
“Clearly the negotiating experience gained by the minority government from 2007 to 2011 has been beneficial as this is good for Scotland and compares markedly with the sterility of the Labour pact with the Tories across much of Scotland.”
